1029. REVIEW. NINE INCH NAILS @ VOODOO EXPERIENCE, NEW ORLEANS
Nine Inch Nails
10/25/08 @ Voodoo Experience
New Orleans, LANIN is a platinum-level rock band and Trent Reznor is its sole CEO, visionary and director. At Voodoo Experience, the band attracted a record capacity for Saturday night’s headlining slot on the Le Ritual main stage. NIN played through each tune as if they’d been playing them together for years. The fact is, except for guitarist Robin Finck (who's played with NIN since 1994), the players are mostly NIN neophytes. Keyboardist Alessandro Cortini (who contributed to NIN’s new Ghosts I-IV project) and bassist Meldal-Johnsen (of Beck fame) just came on board this year, while powerhouse drummer Josh Freese has been playing with NIN since 2005.
It should be celebrated that every song was accompanied by extraordinary visuals. The performance was powered by one of the most intense lighting set-ups ever seen which featured movie-sized LCD screens blasting nuclear-powered animations that lit up the sky. Aptly named “Lights In The Sky Across North America Tour 2008”, this has to be one of the most ambitious shows ever staged.
